Light rays (consisting of photons) from the scene (image) pass through an objective perspective and then will hit a sensitive CCD or CMOS.
Photons create a load received at the pixels of the sensor and thus a memory image. In Digital Photography you must use a good Digital Camera Film to enhance any Photography Technique you might be using.
Each pixel is responsible for analog even at this level.
An electronic system allows you to "empty" regular analog charges of all pixels of the sensor and transforms them into digital values constituting the digital image. This dedicated circuit trafficking frame by frame at regular intervals, 24, 25, 29.97, 30 times per second depending on the setting of the camera. It creates a digital serial stream to the digital laser technology (recording on DVD) or magnetic technology (recording on DV tape or Hi8 format to D8, HDD or SDHC memory card).

She can shoot and thus produce a video classic, and serve the video, or capture an image periodically. Its practical use is often the communication, especially video and the video, especially the motion detection provided by a program analyzing the differences between successive images. There are also MeteoCam, astrocam, etc.. Some models also incorporate a microphone.  Knowing how to Operate a Digital Camera and create good Digital Photography is truly an art form.

The use of the webcam for Color Contrast and video spread widely for personal communications between users via instant messaging, or through specific sites.

The webcam can also be used as a controller in video games, it detects movement in the player to steer the game (for example, control a ball in his arms waving in front of the lens). This has for example been used in the EyeToy for the PlayStation 2, or in some webcams to your computer.

Given their low price, webcams were often diverted from their primary function. The most famous is the "astrocam, webcam stripped of its context and placed in a telescope.

Everything goes back to the invention of the CCD in 1970.

In the 1970 appearance of the first video cameras for individuals. The manufacturer Sony decided in 1981 to use his knowledge in the field of video to produce a magnetic camera: the Mavica for Magnetic Video Camera. A magnetic disk storage allows fifty color images of a definition of 490 × 570 points (280 000 pixels), NTSC format. A drive can display photos on a TV. In order not to be outdone, other manufacturers adopted a standard for magnetic storage of images: the two-inch floppy disk (the brand Amstrad computers using three-inch diskettes).

In 1989, Canon offers the Xapshot, for the general public, which has a definition of 786 × 300 points. He was followed by models baptized Ion. These early models are not really digital, because the image, if properly captured by a matrix of points, is stored on analogue magnetic memories.

In 1991, the department Kodak Kodak Digital Science released a digital back for a classic SLR, the Nikon F3. This product is intended for professionals, particularly because of its prohibitive price. Fujifilm and Nikon come out a little later Fujix, with comparable features.

In 1992, the manufacturer Logitech launches mouse Fotoman, small digital camera to connect to PC. The device has a definition of 376 × 284 points, and stores 36 pictures in memory. This is the first fully digital photoscope. The following year, Apple offers a similar device, the QuickTake, which takes pictures in 640 x 480 or 320 x 240.

From 1995-1996, there are digital cameras as we know at present, with a color LCD screen on the back. The market explosion occurred at 1997-1998 with a rapid proliferation of models. The definition, below the first million pixels, is growing rapidly, to more than 12 million in 2006.
