Black and White Digital Photography Laboratory
the sharpness, the reproduction of different brightness levels, the tonal range we can observe in the print, depend on a series of decision that start when choosing the type of negative we put in the camera and end when the print is done drying.
The conscious of the continuity between the brightness levels of the original scene and the densities of the print is fundamental to orient the lab work in the sense of the search for quality, correction of errors in view of the results, and is indispensable for a definitive comprehension of the operation of the film. The lab lets us fix the eventual technical deficiencies we find in a developed negative and, what is more important, is the testing of our theory of film exposure, because an adequate exposure for what we want to do is the most important condition for obtaining quality negatives and prints (4.3.1.2) . If in the moment of the shot we have everything we have learned in the laboratory in mind, we will know how to use, much more appropriately, the complex technical medium we use.
